Flip Schultz started as a regional correspondent for the Noordhollands Dagblad newspaper, writing municipal council reports and interviewing local and regional politicians.
The School of Journalism in Utrecht was the next step. During his studies, he learned perhaps most of all from TV director Gijs Stappershoef (1920–2010), who taught interview training classes at the time.
During those years, he contributed to a publication by the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam, amongst other things. He also worked briefly at STAD Radio Amsterdam.
After Utrecht, Flip studied law at the University of Amsterdam for several years.
An invitation to work and live in England for a year led to side jobs at The Independent newspaper, which had been founded a few years earlier, and The Image photography magazine. It was at the latter that he developed a passion for photography.
During that year, he also became acquainted with the internet (e.g. forums on CompuServe), which was still in its infancy as a communication channel at the time.
Back in the Netherlands, he worked as a correspondent for British and European clients. At the beginning of this century, as editor of De Zaak, he contributed to the growth of that title into the largest business magazine and platform in the Netherlands until 2016.
As a freelancer, he wrote interviews and reports for domestic and foreign publications such as Objekt International and Het Financieele Dagblad.
Meanwhile, he took various courses in journalism and photography.
From 2018 up until the summer of 2025, he produced and hosted the podcast Vakwerk.
In it, more than 80 people talk about their profession, trade, and/or company—from an architect and public administrator to a peanut farmer and American venture capitalist.
Central to these conversations are questions such as why they chose their profession, what is so great about it, and what challenges they are facing.
Flip is currently working on a couple of projects for various clients.
